2. Betterment of Primary Education

Meetings/Contacts with Guardians

During the interventions it was witnessed that village residents and their children were not much educated. Despite having schools they village residents do not send the children to schools and continue to engage them in daily chores. Some parents admit the children in the school, but do not see if their child has gone to school or not. They send the child to the school only when some benefit has to accrue from the school. Keeping this in view, contacts were established with parents and in the meetings held with them they were apprised of the importance of education and sensitised to send the children to school. By giving comparison of educated and non-educated person, they were told to send their children to school compulsorily so the children become educated and contribute to the furtherance of the country and society.

Meetings with Teachers

Discussions were held with the teachers of primary schools on the issue of improvement of primary education system. During the discussion, the teachers came out with their difficulties like lack of clarity of teachers’ role, shortage of teachers, carelessness of parents, etc. Most of the parents admit their children to the school, but do not ensure their regular attendance in the school. On the other hand, the children coming to the school do not have proper reading and writing material. Even after repeatedly drawing attention, the parents do not pay attention and this badly affects teaching work. Information was sought from the teachers on parents meetings and education committee meetings.

Village Level Meetings

After holding meetings with the parents/community, village level workshop was held to hold discussion on the shortcomings in the educational system. Parents, men and women panchayat representatives and community members were invited to this workshop. During the workshop, people were sensitised on the facilities available from the village and negative thinking about girl education, while discussing importance of education. The participants were apprised of the shortcomings at the parent level and information provided by the teachers. Parents and community members both accepted that they were all responsible for improving educational system. Seeing the shortage of the teachers in primary schools, discussions were held on volunteer teacher and volunteer teachers were selected.

Training of Village Education Committees

For the betterment and qualitative improvement of primary education, training of Village Education Committees were organised. Pradhan, members, teachers, parents and members of education committee were invited to these training. The topics of the training included difficulties faced and rights and duties of Village Education Committee. During the discussion in the training, it came out that there should be a feeling of coordination between for an improvement in education. Alongside there is a need to pay more attention to the duties of each individual.
