Primary Education

Children guided by adults taking out a procession for creating awareness regarding primary educationEducation is still a neglected aspect in many parts of rural India. Despite existence of schools in almost all the villages and hamlets, many village residents do not send their children to schools and continue to engage them in daily chores. Some parents admit the children in the school, but do not ensure that their children attend schools regularly and send the children to the school only when some benefit has to accrue from the school. Regular contacts are maintained with parents to apprise them of the importance of education and sensitise them to regularly send their children to school.

To improve level of teaching in the primary schools regular discussions are held with the teachers of primary schools. During these discussions, the teachers have come out with the difficulties they face like shortage of teachers, carelessness of parents, etc. This has formed the basis of advocacy with the Education Department for solution of teachers' problems with a view to improve quality of education.Village level workshops are held to discuss shortcomings in the educational system.

For the betterment and qualitative improvement of primary education, training of Village Education Committees have also been organised. Pradhan, members, teachers, parents and members of education committee were invited to these training. The topics of the training included difficulties faced and rights and duties of Village Education Committee.

Lastly, to strengthen primary education in rural areas and to reach benefit of the government scheme to the targeted people, the organisation’s workers made efforts to implement mid day meal by establishing coordination between teachers and parents so mid-day meal scheme can meet its objectives and children can get its benefit.
