Child Rights

UNICEF has from time to time adopted a number of covenants for providing facilities, opportunities and rights to children. But India is among those developing countries where very few opportunities of health, education and development are available to the children of a general family. So much so that for a child born in India to become legal resident of the country, very few pieces of information and opportunities are available. Apart from this, very less information is available at the community level for the facilities and services being provided by the government to the community.

Shashwat is carrying out the following activities in the above context:

  ¡

No baseline information is available about the total number of children in a particular geographical region like state, district, or block. this leads to unequal distribution of facilities and services available. This happens because registrations of births and deaths are not done by the agencies responsible for the task. The organisation is creating information regarding this through street plays and workshops at the community level. Efforts are being made to ensure registration of births and deaths by the agencies responsible it. Employees of schools, panchayats, child development department and health department are being sensitised on registration process and its importance.

¡ Iodine deficiency leads to stunted growth of children and many children are known to leave education midway because their mental development is not proper because of this. Under these circumstances, the organisation is promoting use of iodine salt through the children in 32 schools in Khiri district.
