Shashwat Sahbhagi Sansthan was founded in 1996 to create a platform for experimenting with the principles of participatory community development on one hand and the realities of our social milieu on the other, which, in spite of sustained efforts by various agencies and institutions over time, remained morose and intractable. 

Shashwat works in Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh, the most populated state in India. Interestingly, Sitapur district is one of the poorest 100 districts in India as per a list prepared by the Government of India.
